A bridge is a restoration that replaces a missing tooth with a replacement crown. The false tooth is suspended between two functional crowns, which are anchored onto the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. This creates a bridge across your open space, returning both aesthetics and function to that area of your mouth.
Traditional Bridges
Traditional bridges are used when there are sturdy, healthy teeth to support one or two prosthetic teeth between them. The process takes 2 appointments, and is similar to having a crown made. At the first visit the supporting teeth will be prepped and an impression is taken. Two weeks later, the custom made bridge is ready to be permanently bonded into place.
Implant Bridges
Implant supported bridges can replace up to 4 or 5 teeth at once. Each end is supported by a permanent dental implant, which functions like a natural tooth. It allows patients to replace more teeth, or to have a bridge if there are not healthy teeth nearby. Implant therapy involves the surgical placement of implants, a brief healing period, and then the delivery of a permanent restoration.
